Purplish black in bright light, this large bromeliad spans a meter when mature. Its meter long spike has black bracts bearing off-white flowers, creating vivid contrasts and making it a great accent plant. Prefers semi-shade to dappled bright light; the amount of light influences foliage colour.

This large, sun tolerant ornamental bromeliad can grow to 1.2 metres high. The foliage can range from green, to orange to red depending on the clone, and will develop its best vibrant colours in sufficient sunlight. The large flower spike can reach 1.5m bearing long lasting masses of red and yellow flowers and purple berries. The orange and yellow varieties prefer full sun while the green variety prefers partial sun.
This is an unusually beautiful plant whose shiny green leaves with dark, hieroglyphic cross bands totally outshine its tall green flower spike bearing pale cream flowers. Given some 10 years, the rosette can spread to about 1.5 metres, earning it the common name of King of Bromeliads.

This beautiful plant grows in partial shade reaching to between 1 and 3 feet in height and spreading up to 2 feet. Therefore proving to be most suitable as house/office plant. The green leaves on plant are heavily banded with silver. It has the most stunning big pink pyramidal flower head with blue petals. The flower remains in colour for several months. When it matures the leaves gets covered with a silvery white powder which makes this beauty stands out in the landscaping. The inflorescence is tall and branched and has fragrant flowers that attracts bees, butterflies and/or birds. It can be grown outside in tropical areas. It will take many light conditions.
